Surat: Posters of Sholay appear at Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi’s rally with dialougues like “ Gabbar #GST mein aa raha hun”.Forty two years after its release, posters of Bollywood film “Sholay” is in news for political reasons. At an election rally, the Congress Vice-President  Rahul Gandhi rechristened Goods and Services Tax (GST) as Gabbar Singh Tax after the arch-villain of “Sholay”.The GST has brought lakhs of small merchants “on their knees” and asks them to punish the BJP by voting against it in the forthcoming assembly elections.

The people of Surat were in for a surprise when they found posters of Sholay film star Sanjeev Kumar on prominent corner. Many years after his death,Thakur Baldev Singh was back in action in the posters war between the BJP and the Congress.

Targeting the GST tax regime, Local Congress units used Sholay dialogues generously delivered by Kumar in the film. Congress supporters made a short file, “Gabbar Ke Goley” in which  a lookalike of the Gabbar is seen chopping off GST and demonetisation.

Surat is considered a stronghold of BJP and the party had registered a ninety-plus strike rate in the last Assembly elections. The Congress this election is seeking to wrest Gujarat from the BJP.

Mr Gandhi’s visit to Gujarat was on the first anniversary of banning high denomination notes of Rs. 500 and Rs.1000. Congress has dubbed demonetisation anniversary a “Black Day”.

Rahul Gandhi held a candle-light vigil near the Vivekanand statue in Chowk Bazar Surat. This time Rahul Gandhi is in a new avatar and has launched aggressive attacks on BJP government over both demonetisation and GST

  1. Hey! Do you know if they make any plugins to protect against hackers? I’m kinda paranoid about losing everything I’ve worked hard on. Any suggestions?
